Lead Based Paint Removal

Effective April 22nd a new law went into effect regarding lead based paint handling and removal. Not only is Basement Windows of Denver (Kruse Construction) committed to providing our customers with efficiency and quality, legitimate business practices are a high priority. By following all rules and regulations we can ensure your safety and security. Kruse Construction is a certified renovator, issues as lead based paint. According to the new law, anyone that does construction work on a residential home or school/daycare facility built before 1978 MUST hold this certificate, issued by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).

As renovators certified by the EPA, we have specific responsibilities that will ensure your families safety. First, we will use certain techniques, that vary from job to job and that include certain tools, and or ways of completing the work to so that the minimal amount of dust and debris will contaminate the air and surrounding surfaces. Second, we will contain your work area so that any dangerous remnants of lead based paint will be confined only to the work area. We are also trained in proper clean up and disposal among several other detrimental factors that will greatly reduce the risk of any harmful substances reaching you and your family.

Dangers of Lead Based Paint

There are several ways a person can be exposed to lead based paint. These include, ingestion, by chewing, or swallowing, inhalation of dust and debris, through soil, or touching a lead based surface, thus causing absorption through ones skin, and once again, ingestion by putting contaminated hands in your mouth. While living in a home with lead based paint is always a danger, it increases substantially when any kind of construction is being performed on your home. In fact, the most common circumstance under which a person is poisoned is while the area is being renovated.

Potential harmful effects in Adults can include the following:

  • Headaches
  • Lethargy
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Metallic taste in mouth
  • Loss of appetite
  • Reproductive problems
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Extreme exposure can lead to coma or death

The most susceptible to adverse effects are children. Their bodies are still developing, and because of the extreme effect the lead has on the neurological system and organs, their risks are much greater.

  • Growth stunting
  • Delayed development/learning disabilities
  • Attention deficit disorder
  • Behavioral issues
  • Neurological problems
  • Kidney damage
  • Mental retardation
  • Coma and/or death (more common in children than adults)

Aside from these symptoms and dangers, pregnant women exposed to LBP can experience abnormal fetal development. The list of negative effects this poison can create to an unborn child are endless. So this can affect every member of your family, and as you can see is a serious issue. When working with a contractor not only it is essential for the preservation of your family’s well being to seek out a contractor that is certified, but as of April 22, 2010, it is required by law.

The most common areas lead based paint are found are window sills, trim, and soil. These three areas are ALL disturbed when installing an egress window. Rest assured, Kruse Construction not only has the integrity of your home in mind, but most importantly, the health of your family.

We offer a variety of wells, whether you are doing a new egress window or a window well exchange.
